Fuel Transport is expanding rapidly and looking for a Controller for our office located in LaSalle, Quebec.  The person selected will be responsible for all accounting and financial functions working closely with the CFO.  As the Controller, you’ll fill a critical leadership role in the accounting department, and oversee a wide range of functions like financial reporting & analysis, audit, tax supporting sales and operations. Your analysis of the company’s finances forms the basis for its strategic planning. You’ll work closely with the managers of other business units to achieve the organization’s overall business objectives.

Detailed Job Description:
  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting team.
  • Responsible for the monthly accounting close including an analytical review to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
  • Review and record journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for multiple entities and multi-currency.
  • Preparation of quarterly forecasts incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
  • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the month-end close and to ensure timely, accurate reporting and internal controls.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place to ensure seamless and consistent financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial and federal tax and reporting requirements.
  • Proper analytical review of the asset-based financial statements and an understanding from an overall business perspective.
  • Oversee and review trade and non-trade bills, issuing payments after proper validation procedures.
  • Responsible for monthly bank reconciliations and cash management procedures.
  • Oversee monthly remittance procedures to government agencies (GST/QST) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Effectively to liaise with other department leads in HR, sales, operations and management.
  • Ability to challenge the norm and continually search for process improvements.
  • Other duties as per the need of the organization.
 
Skills & Requirements:
  • Bachelor in Accounting with an Accounting Designation (CPA) and at least five (5) year’s experience in a Controller position.
  • Good practical knowledge of Microsoft Suite, advanced level of Excel.
  • Task and goal oriented and capable of functioning in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and corporate setting.
  • Able to analyze, report and articulate financial information to stakeholders.
  • Ability to challenge the norm and continually search for process improvements.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French.
  • Strong communication, organization and management skills.
  • Excellent technical proficiency and attention to detail.
  • Highly productive with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Customer service oriented, maintains a professional attitude with internal clients.
  • Has excellent attendance and completes quality work on time.
