Fuel Transport is expanding rapidly and looking for an Assistant Controller for our office located in LaSalle, Quebec.  As the Assistant Controller, you’ll fill a critical leadership role in the accounting department, and help oversee a wide range of functions such as: the preparation of financial statements, variance analysis, audit and tax while supporting sales and operations. Your analysis of the company’s finances forms the basis for its strategic planning. You’ll work closely with the Controller, the CFO and with the managers of other business units to achieve the organization’s overall business objectives.

Detailed Job Description:
 
  • Assist in overseeing daily operations of the accounting team.
  • Manage the month-end closing process including variance analysis.
  • Review and record journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for multiple entities and multi-currency.
  • Preparation of quarterly forecasts incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
  • Assist in implementing, documenting and maintaining adequate and effective processes to improve the month-end close and to ensure timely, accurate reporting and internal controls.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with local, provincial and federal tax and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in processing trade and non-trade bills.
  • Responsible to support monthly bank reconciliations and cash management procedures.
  • Assist in monthly remittance procedures to government agencies (GST/QST) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist Controller with all daily functions and special projects.
 
Skills & Requirements:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with an Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of pertinent experience in an accounting firm.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite, advanced level of Excel.
  • Ability to analyze, report and articulate financial information to stakeholders.
  • Task and goal oriented, capable of functioning in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and corporate setting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to challenge the norm and continually search for process improvements.
  • Dedicated and detailed oriented.
